Pushing Limits OCR - Pushing Limits OCR Home Schedule Results About Contact How Far Will You Push? "We all have two lives. The second one starts when we realize that we only have one.” ― Tom Hiddleston?? View Racing Schedule 09.10.17 - Spartan DC Sprint 9/14/2017 0 Comments I woke up for the Spartan DC Sprint feeling like I had been hit by a truck. My nose was stuffy, my throat was even more scratchy than the day before, and my upper body was trashed. My back felt great and my race clothes were already laid out, and the thought of sitting out didn't even cross my mind. After tackling the 6.4 mile, 29 obstacle, Savage Race the day before I knew my time on this 4.2 mile, 23 obstacle course was going to be quite a mental and physical battle.? ?My legs actually felt pretty good for the first mile, even though they were moving much slower than I knew they could. Read More 0 Comments 09.09.17 - Savage Race MD Fall 9/13/2017 0 Comments I woke up the morning of my first Savage Race with a scratchy throat and not feeling great. I blamed my nerves, the open window I slept beside, and the very out-of-character lonely cocktail I had the night before. My nerves continued to build on the drive and during my warmup. The obstacles in this race flat out scared me as they were big and focused on grip strength. There was also an ice bath, water jump, ?and a huge slide? -- none of which I am a fan of. I quite honestly wanted to skip this race, but I am so glad that I didn't! The race started off at a fast pace but I settled into a pace that would last me the 6.4 miles with enough energy left over to handle the 29 obstacles that were scattered about. The first few miles included some random crawls, planked walls, the ice bath, and other objects to climb over. I was doing my best to hang with a couple that were keeping a solid pace, which seemed to be about 13-15 minute miles. There was not much time between that race and the Boston Super, and I did some traveling in between. Regardless, I was looking forward to a flatter race and excited to see how I handled the increased distance. Unfortunately the weather decided to make a not-so-nice day for a race. I was soaking wet before the race even began. A light drizzle was taking place when my Competitive wave started. As we started off through corn fields and pastures I understood why most people hate the terrain on this course. I picked my footing carefully and tried to stick to a pace that would carry me through the 8 miles that lay ahead. Read More 0 Comments Essential Oils for the OCR Athlete 7/29/2017 0 Comments If you have been following my blog, you know that last year I had a slew of medical issues preventing me from racing and training. Through that journey I have become increasingly aware of not only my training program but also the products I use to support my body through it. In order to help my body perform at its best, I now refuse to use any products containing chemicals. Thankfully I was introduced to essential oils by a coworker. I slowly incorporated the oils into my daily routine and continue to find countless applications for them as an OCR athlete. ? Read More 0 Comments 7.15.17 - Spartan PA Sprint 7/18/2017 0 Comments After Tuxedo my training and nutrition were very consistent and I was able to increase my fitness while decreasing the number on the scale. While I was dreading the vertical gain and extra grip obstacles in this course, my dedication seemed to pay off. The first mile of the race was all uphill with a few Hurdles and Walls along the way that I scaled with ease. I was able to make the climb in 30 minutes, which was much better than I had anticipated. The Atlas Carry and Vertical Cargo net proceeded the Sandbag Carry, all of which I took in stride. My Icebugs allowed me to run down the slick slope of the carry while others were struggling to stay upright. Read More 0 Comments <
